Bush, Science and the New Holocaust

Posted by daev

Lies, Lies and more damned lies from the White House

So. Herr Bush and his staff have long been claiming that Global warming isn't even a reality. Not so according to a report written by Peter Schwartz, CIA consultant and former head of planning at Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Doug Randall of the California-based Global Business Network. According to them in a report which The Observer has got its hands on:

"...abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents. Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,' concludes the Pentagon analysis. 'Once again, warfare would define human life.' "

All together now, "Armageddon days are here again"

Now, add to this the news that President Bush's administration has been accused of suppressing and distorting scientific findings that run counter to its own political beliefs. The charge comes from an American body, the Union of Concerned Scientists, in a statement with more than 60 supporters, including 12 Nobel prize winners.

Said Dr. Kurt Gottfried: "Across a broad range of issues, the administration has undermined the quality of the scientific advisory system and the morale of the government's outstanding scientific personnel. Whether the issue is lead paint, clean air or climate change, this behaviour has serious consequences for all Americans."

In light of the CIA report (covered by the Observer) which says that global warming could destroy most of Europe within about, oh, thirty years, I'd say that it was pretty f**king important to be listening to scientists right now...
