Oi. Harney. No.

Mary Harney. Yesterday...Mary Harney says that we (that's you and me - the consumer) are to blame for high prices. OK. Now I'm angry...

So according to a piece in today's Irish Indo, Mary Harney has said that the high prices that we face in the post Celtic Bog-Cat Oireland are the result of a failing of us, the consumer. Apparently, we did not shop around enough.

Reee-heee-heally?

OK Mary. Grand so. Let's play a little game shall we? It's called 'paint a picture for the patronising bitch who gets driven around in a '03 Reg Mercedes'. Imagine this if you will: a single mother living in Kilbarrack. She earns close to minumum wage for working 48 hours in a local retail outlet. She has two children. She needs to pay for school costs, food, rent, heat, electricity and transport to and from work. She has no car.

She is forced (due to a lack of a car) to shop in the nearest shopping centre she can get to. This means she is beholden to pay whatever prices she sees there. She does not have the option to shop around. She cannot get into the city centre to compare prices. She doesn't have a chauffer driven mercedes to bring her.

Miss Harney, let's be clear. So far we have put up with your Government's breathtaking incompetence. We have put up with your lies and your Orwellian manipulation of the english language. We have put up with your frenzied desire for privatisation of state assests so that fat rich party donors can get richer. We have put up with escalating crime. We have put up with the smug, insufferable smirk on your smarmy fucking faces.

But if you think, for a second, that you can get away with insulting or patronising us, then believe me you are sorely mistaken. Fuck you, you bitch and the fucking Mercedes that you rode in on. Next time that you feel the urge to blame rampant profiteering and the naked greed of retailers on the very people that are getting fucked over by the shambles of a country you were elected to run, come see me and i'll show you what choice there is for those living in or around the poverty line. I think you'll find 48 hours with me deeply instructive in the ways of 'consumer choice'.

We may be consumers, but we are also citizens. You rememeber what that means don't you? That's right - we get to vote.
