Let's be clear about this. Madonna is possibly the greatest corporate whore of them all, and I've had about as much of her as I can stomach. A couple of months ago I was treated to the nauseating spectacle of her trying to hock her new album 'American Life', with her dressed up in Zapatista garb and attempting some Che Guevara chic. And now we have her whoring herself for Gap Jeans. Jesus suffering fuck woman, you couldn't have missed the point more dramatically if you tried.
Lest you all wonder what my objection is, Gap clothing is not manufactured in conditions which could be described as anything close to humane. Indeed, the conditions that the EPZ (Export Processing Zone) employees toil in, is the stuff of legend. For more information on this see Naomi Kleins 'No Logo' book. Re. Last weeks nominee. I have since discovered that Eltons latest single is actually a re-issue of a long forgotten disco gem recorded at the legendary Philly Studios way back in 1977 when Elton was at the height of his "powers" (I use the term very loosely because, unlike BB, I don't believe that Reg has ever been groovy. I believe that he is, in fact, a hairy little tub)
I was surprised it hadn't been written in tribute especially for MOneybags Murdoch and the start of his Celebrity Kickaboot.
I saw this ad, but I wasn't sure what I saw, if you follow my drift. It was very much "nahh, it couldn't be".

I can't believe i'm gonna do this, but I'm about to jump to Elton's defence. Not about that ad mind you - I still say he is a whore - but rather about his toons in the 70's. Consider: Daniel, Rocket Man, Saturday Night's alright for fighting, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Tiny Dancer and plenty more besides. Which makes it all the more painful to see a once great artist whoring himself to Murdoch. For shame Elton, for shame...

God, just saw that ad for the first time yesterday. Madonna is a corporate hoor, and this current insipid version of "Get Into The Groove" is horrible.
i would like to nominate you, birdbath, for corporate whore of the week. you provide free content to a marketing vehicle for desire publishing. at least madonna is smart enough to trade compensation for her work.
