Hunter S. Thompson murdered? Maybe, Maybe Not

Somehow I missed this conspiracy theory till recently. I think this is because I had mixed feelings about Thompson apparent suicide – I was a follower of his writings, and couldn’t decided how I felt about his death. On one hand, blowing his brains out was a no less dramatic than his earlier exploits – but on the other hand, I expected him to go down fighting. Maybe he did.

“Hunter telephoned me on Feb. 19, the night before his death. He sounded scared. It wasn’t always easy to understand what he said, particularly over the phone, he mumbled, yet when there was something he really wanted you to understand, you did. He’d been working on a story about the World Trade Center attacks and had stumbled across what he felt was hard evidence showing the towers had been brought down not by the airplanes that flew into them but by explosive charges set off in their foundations. Now he thought someone was out to stop him publishing it: “They’re gonna make it look like suicide,” he said. “I know how these bastards think . . .”
Paul William Roberts, Toronto Globe and Mail
The thing is, when I read this article it’s obvious that Roberts is merely citing an imaginary conversation – the second paragraphs reveals as much. Some people, however, seem unable to read past that first paragraph, and there’s now a concrete rumour bouncing about conspiracy/literary circles which quote the aforementioned articles as proof that Thompson was murdered. Ye gods.
There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die

However, Thompson actually did give an interview on KDNK radio (Colorado) in January 2003 where he made a suggestion that he may be murdered to shut him up.
“Bush is really the evil one here and it is more than just him. We are the Nazis in this game and I don’t like it. I am embarrassed and I am pissed off. I mean to say something. I think a lot of people in this country agree with me…we’ll see what happens to me if I get my head cut off next week — it is always unknown or bushy-haired strangers who commit suicide right afterwards with no witnesses.”
However, there are other apparent irregularities concerning Thompson’s death, leading some people into suggesting that he had been forced to shoot himself. More on the websites below…

  1. The Aspen Free Press broke the news of Hunter Thompson’s death in Aspen with a street ‘extra’ which apres skiers slumped on barstools read in stunned disbelief all over town. Now the newspaper is looking into Hunter’s autopsy. The postmortem ex amination reports puts Hunter’s body length at 70.5 inches. Hunter stood 6’3 1/2″ so his body length had to have been more nearly 75.5 inches. Sheriff Bob Broadus told the Aspen Free Press that Hunter had lost about an inch in height due to “illness.” This still leaves four inches missing unaccounted for. Sheriff Braudis says the autopsy report made a ‘mistake.’ Stay tuned.

  2. He was “suicided”…
its when someone is assassinated by powers that be and the sick fucks make it look like he killed himself.
Listen if your famous, you need to Make it public record that you dont plan on ever killing yourself…otherwise they might just make it look like you did, to cover up the truth.
but if you should want to kill yourself thats your own business, that is your natural right as a sovereign being…
Always make redundant backups of your findings available in safe places that they cant get to without going through other people…that way when they ice your ass there are still copies of your findings floating around waiting to hit the airwaves.
    have fun. 😉

  3. You people are fucking assholes.Let the man rest in some sort of peace. For one he talked about suicide for years.I did not know him but all the things I have read and seen, shows that he shot himself. For the love of god his son was in the fucking house that night. So what Alex Jones knows everything, right.Cause he is the fuck stick that started this rumor. You know I was paranoid like alot of you assholes on this sit at one time.Get a life please. Also no one in his family had any knowledge of this so called 911 piece that he was working on.People need to stop with the bullshit. All you are doing is freaking people out.You don’t know shit and you should shut the fuck up.I would love to bitch slap Alex Jones and all you other assholes that think like him.So with that being said, all you disrespectful asshole motherfuckers can go fuck yourselves. You to Alex Jones you motherfucker you.

What do you mean his family had no knowledge of Hunter’s work? There are recordings of Thompson talking about it:

Yeah his son and someone else were in the next room. What they heard, they assumed was a book falling before checking on him a few minutes later. You are naive if you think the US government doesn’t have access to assassins good enough to pull this off.
I’m not saying Thompson didn’t kill himself, I’m just saying murder is more feasible than you’re suggesting.

  5. @John Mitchell
    What are you talking about?
If you look into it online, you will see you are wrong. Hunter himself talks about his 9/11 work in public interviews; there’s no way his family couldn’t have known about it.
There is an article from the Toronto Globe And Mail by Paul William Roberts saying he received a phone call from Hunter the night before he died, and that Hunter had said he had hard evidence that the towers had been brought down by demolition and not by the planes.
    Look it up.
