No, it's not from The Onion. Apparently Kiwi actor Russell Crowe was given FBI protection after an al-Qa'ida plot to kidnap him was uncovered.

He said police officers in dinner jackets were guarding him when he promoted his film 'Proof of Life' in London in February 2001. (I hadn't actually heard of this movie. Where have I been?)
