"Scanger or skanger is a derogatory term for the stereotypical member of a youth subculture group in Ireland (especially in Dublin, for example, in Cork they woul be more commonly referred to as a "feen"). Scangers bear a lot of resemblance to what are called chavs in Britain, however they predate the chavs by at least a decade, with the chavs being a recent phenomenon. Therefore, having evolved earlier, they are more complex in their nature and variety."
