Northern Ireland’s UFO Files released

God bless the Freedom of Information Act (FoIA), eh?. Just a few days ago, we ran an item linking to a report from a Scottish newspaper which profiled a raft of British Ministry of Defence UFO files which were obtained under the FoIA. And now we have some ‘Norn Irish’ ones. From the Belfast Telegraph:

A secret ‘X-files’ style dossier of UFO sightings in Northern Ireland has been made public for the first time.
Details revealed under the Freedom of Information Act show that 11 sightings have been reported in the area in the past decade.
They range from bright lights to dome-shaped objects, according to the Ministry of Defence log books that list times, dates, places and descriptions.
The busiest year for possible ‘space invader’ activity in the province was 1999, with five incidents recorded, including two in Co Antrim within 48 hours.
Other reports include 18 lights moving across the sky and an object the size of a bowling ball with red lines on it that “moved fast, then vanished” .

A welcome piece from the Belfast Telegraph, but with one moan: can you please, please, effin’ please stop mentioning the godamned X-Files every time a UFO story comes to you? The show ended years ago, sucked, was patently ridiculous in it’s portrayal of Ufology and anyone involved with it and is, quite frankly, around about as fashionable as Chris Langham. Stop it you lazy bastards.

Tsk, tsk. Pretty bloody touchy aren’t we? “X-files” is often used as a generic term to refer to ANY government file or report that has to do with UFOs or other unexplained phenomena.
    Chill out!

  2. Just heard two separate UFO reports on Radio Ulster today (13th Aug 07)from phone-in callers in the Moy area. Of course they were treated very light heartedly by the presenters, one person even being asked what they were drinking last night! These callers were quite serious, one, a woman, even sounded frightened. No wonder 90% of sightings are not reported to the authorities.
