Children buried alive according to 'tradition'

Posted by barry

"Three teenage girls have been buried alive by their tribe in a remote part of Pakistan to punish them for attempting to choose their own husbands, in an "honour" killing case. After news of the deaths emerged, male politicians from their province, Baluchistan, defended the killings in parliament, claiming the practice was part of "our tribal custom"."

Would seem the international media attention has stirred some action.....

"Police in Pakistan have exhumed the bodies of two women allegedly buried alive in western Balochistan province.

They have also arrested six people, including some relatives of the women."

What a horrible, barbaric thing to do. I can't believe that we even call these animals "human beings". It's things like this that make me get really angry whenever I hear people say how much they hate our government. Maybe they would rather live in a country where they were told whom to marry, or else be shot and buried alive; maybe they would rather live in a country where it is legal for a man to kill his wife for even looking at another man; maybe they would rather live in a country where rapists are never punished; maybe they would rather live in a country where women are forced to wear extremely hot, long dresses and have their faces covered up while out in public.......I don't think so!

Thanks for your comment. But what do you mean by "our" government? Blather.net is an international website edited from Dublin (Ireland), London (UK) and Oslo (Norway), and you don't state what country's government you are living under.

I am glad that you are shocked by these appalling events, as should we all, but this is well within the documented behaviour of "human beings". Horrible, barbaric things have always been features of our history. To improve the quality of human life is a very worthy aim, but we'll get nowhere down that road if we label the people we like as human and people we don't like as animals. They're all human.

From your reference to women covering themselves up, I hope you are not implying that honour killings are particularly a "Muslim" thing. For our readers who don't know this, I should point out that honour killing, although it takes place in many predominantly Muslim countries, it is NOT found in just as many. Honour killing is really a feature of tribalism, and has been documented among Christians, Druzes, Hindus and Sikhs as well as Muslims. Nor is it particularly Middle Eastern or Asian, as it has been documented in South America and elsewhere too.
