Just when you thought that it couldn’t get any whackier, President Bush gets just the kind of soundbite that his administration and their faithful hounds of disinformation can twist and distort in order to piss on the Kyoto protocol just a little bit more.
Basically a group of american scientists are claiming that mankind’s unique adaptation to the beneficial climate of the Holocene (the period basically encompasing the last 10,000 years) was due to the fact that the transfer from a nomadic ‘hunter-gatherer’ lifestyle to one of settled agriculture and pastoralism, was what actually caused the huge jumps in global temperature which made that farming possible.
Confused? You should be.
Chicken and egg? Never mind.
This is going to be an interesting story to follow, but before it gets distorted by the right-wing spin-pieces of the oil lobbies and eco-haters, do yourself a favour and read about it.
