UK Government hid existence of UFO Investigation Unit

Not quite the earth-shattering headline that some would like it to be, but interesting nonetheless. A report in this Monday’s Guardian claims that ‘The Ministry of Defence went to extraordinary lengths to cover up its true involvement in investigating UFOs, according to secret documents revealed under the Freedom of Information Act.’

The files which the article refers to were released under the Freedom of Information Act following submissions from David Clarke, a lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University and his colleague Andy Roberts.
Whilst the files don’t reveal anything close to the ‘grand conspiracy’ that many are looking for, it does indicate that ‘officials attempted to expunge information from documents released to the Public Records Office under the “30-year rule” that would have revealed the extent of the MoD’s interest in UFO sightings.’
Doubtless, this will fuel some interweb chatter. Feel free to add your own on the Blather Forums.
