Did Han Solo shoot first?

Posted by damien

Back... and to the left. Back... and to the left. Back... and to the left.

"This shit is important. The whole basis of our mythology is being rewritten by satans little footsoldiers. You know this" - Sean Doran

A recent blog over on P45 (by some random punter) dealt with the staggeringly divisive issue which is the Special Edition of the first Star Wars movie and most notoriously the shooting of Greedo in the Cantina sequence.

In the original 1977 version, Han shot first. In the 1997 Special Edition, Greedo shoots first, thus giving Han the justification to blow his icky, green brains out. Now, it appears, that our benevolent uncle George is fucking with the movie again...

It would seem that the new, super-dooper, ring-a-ding, I'm-selling-you-the-same-fucking-shite-for-the-sixth-time version, has been edited so that both charecters fire simoultaneously. Puuuleassssse.

As per everything pertaining to the great franchise in the sky, outrage and bile have been flying like Jar-Jar shit across the murkier bowels of the internet with the standard George-Lucas-raped-my-Chewie-doll accusations. Here are a series of links to some of the more amusing commentaries...

George is at it again...

The Trials of Han Solo

How George Lucas screwed up Star Wars...

As somebody once said, I have a bad feeling about this...

Anyone else heard about the new Special Edition Zapruder footage being re-released by 20th Century Fox next year?
All the haircuts are being updated, and JFK is seen blasting away at the Dallas crowd with an M16 before he bites the bullet/s. Seriously.

Can't say I know Sean Doran so well, but the late great Bill Hicks was the originator of the "back and to the left routine", including the sentiment that was expressed afterwards.

Interestingly a lot of what he had to say about GB1's adventures in Iraq hold true for Duh-Duh-Duh-Dubya.
