Wiseman Say Skibbereen Not Lucky

According to Reuters, it’s official — a scientist has ‘proved’ that the people of Skibbereen in Co. Cork do not have unnaturally good fortune. He ‘proved’ this by not winning the lottery…


The picturesque town near Ireland’s southern coast earned a reputation as the country’s luckiest after a series of lottery wins.
But Professor Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire in England told a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in Dublin that he had proved there was nothing particularly lucky about the place.

I have to say, I’m a little unconvinced by Wiseman… or at least his portrayal in the media. He’s constantly trundled out to disprove things, and I often wonder if he merely finds what he goes looking for. But what would I know?
