Having proudly derailed the previous Lisbon treaty vote (having given a coruscating list of reasons to vote no) we here at Blather HQ have been feeling somewhat guilty these recent weeks as we are all too aware that the vile Lisbon 2 vote looms on the horizon.
Most of us Blatherskites have long since abandoned the sinking ship Ireland like the proverbial rodents that we are, so we were enormously heartened to see the wonderful folk over at creativeireland.com have been carrying on the work.

  1. Irish please vote NO to this totalitarian treaty. I am from germany and i know what i am speaking of. If you dont like hitler you will hate the EU. God bless you all. NO means NO they must not ask you a second time since they did it shows their understanding of democracy.

  2. Fact: A greater % voted No to Lisbon than voted Yes to Obama. Why is no one asking for a revote there?
This referendum is unconstitutional, unlawful and they are selling our soul.
Please visit http://www.lisbontreaty.net and watch the video – it contains everything the gov are not telling you

  3. Pleace vote for democracy and against the treaty of lisbon
    Dear irish people!
Pleace stop the treaty of lisbon! Is is antidemocartic, militaristic, antisocial. The disadvantages are much bigger, than the advantages. The EU can live with its actuell laws. They should only be changed into a democratic direction. With the treaty of lisbon, the european council is able to change this treaty in great parts without asking the parliament. This is nearly the same law, which mades the nationl- rassistic- party of Germany so powerfull in our country in the year 1933. Our basic law (the german constitution) and all other european constitutions should not be replaced by the treaty of lisbon. But the new treaty tries to bring all right- sytstems in a lower level than the new european right. Here is my informationpage: http://sites.google.com/site/euradevormwald/english . When you have some more english information, pleace send me a link or text or write it into the visitors book of my page. And pleace spread this text all over Ireland.

  4. The Lisbon Treaty gives MORE power to the individual member states and their national governments as opposed to taking it away. It gives national governments more of a say in the law-making process, gives small countries like Ireland more of a vote than its population quota would normally demand, and will implement a Citizens’ Initiate that grants ordinary citizens the power to make proposals direct to the EU (with 1 million signatures).
It also makes the Charter of Fundamental Rights into law, thus ensuring the rights of all citizens, includings minorities, of the EU.
The comparison to Hitler and the Nazis is naive, ludicrous, and insulting to the intelligence of the Irish people. The EU was set up to avoid the kind of horrors that WW2 entailed and continues to promote equality, solidarity, and the fundamental human rights of all people, everything that Hitler was against.

  5. Forget the fear-mongering, forget short-term thinking, here’s the real question(s) that need to be answered:
“Why is the EU so afraid to let people vote on the Lisbon Treaty if it’s so beneficial to everyone? Wouldn’t they rather have a strong EU with the support of the people behind them? Aren’t they pro-democracy?”
I would humbly ask you to please vote “No”, for all our sakes! If, for nothing else, the fact that this is an insult to democracy, freedom and to all the folks who have given their lives in protecting these ideals. No one else in the rest of Europe (400+ million) has had a say in this.
I’m all for a united Europe, but one where the peoples voices are heard and respected – where there is transparency and accountability – not one of arrogance and contempt where they make you ‘vote again’ until you get it right. Will they have another vote if it’s “Yes”?
If that’s what the EU wants to become, just another unaccountable layer of bureaucracy – then count me out.

  6. The comarison to Hitler has its facts. And that is, that the treaty in big parts has no parlamentary controll. Laws and traty often can be made by the meeting of european prime- ministers.
1933 Hitler made together with the catholic Zentrum- Party, that he could makes laws for 4 years without parliament. Who, except Fritz Gerlich, thought, that thisn would lead to Auschwitz.
The treaty has several reasons for war, which a very undefinated. A clear sentence like in the german constition, that an attac- war must not be, cannot be found in the treaty.
I am a friend of the EU, but not of thisn treaty. The irish people have the chance to save the EU. The politicans should do their homeworks an make a better treaty without unclear formulations an very dangerous protocols, which habe the same level, like the treaty- main part!
