J. J. Abrams’ Cthulu Lovecraft Movie Trailer

It’s pretty obvious that this is the teaser trailer for J. J. Abrams’ un-named Lovecraft or Cthulu movie. Codenamed ‘Cloverfield’, it was shown stateside before the Transformers film [spits on floor] and it’s caused quite the flap on the interweb, with assorted factions screaming to claim it as Godzilla 2, Jurassic Park 4 and a host of other franchise sequels. It’s none of those. Take a look:

Well, whatever it is, one thing’s for sure – that’s a damned clever trailer. Harry at Ain’t It Cool has posted an entry which reveals that this is the initial stage in a viral marketing campaign (“Hey! I know! Let’s release a movie with no name! Pass the gak!”) which also features viral sites and a spirited ‘word of mouth’ buzz about the blogosphere.
Anyway, here at Blather we’re curious to see what hardcore Lovecraft fans make of all this. Interesting and timely new slant on the Ancient Ones story? Or a cynical bastardisation of Lovecraft’s great opus? Is this, as some wags have already taken to calling it, nothing more than the Godzilla Witch Project?
