So. The Presidential elections (in Ireland) are oozing their way towards us. And how shall we choose this time? Shall we choose to elect the incumbent merely because she has ‘Mary’ as a first name and because the lowlifes at Abject Fianna Failure have told us to, or are the opposition going to give us something else to have a gander at?
Well, here and now, I am going to nail my colours to the mast. There is only one man who I want to be President of Ireland: Senator David Norris. ‘Is he qualified?’ I hear you ask. Well take a quick look at the stats:

  • Council of Europe Travelling Scholarship;
  • Walter Wormser Harris Prize;
  • First Foundation Scholarship in English Literature and Language;
  • Gold Medal University Philosophical Society;
  • Silver Medal, University Philosophical Society;
  • 1st Class Moderatorship TCD;
  • Nominated for European Human Rights Prize.

There’s plenty more where that came from too. Have a quick glance at his website and see for yourselves.
If you would also like to see Senator Norris run for the Aras, then for God’s sake let the man know! Mail him at the following address:

  1. Well if you are having him for President I would like to see Seán Crowe as Taoiseach.
    Seán is our local ‘get things done-er’. I have much respect for the man. He also brought Gerry Adams up for a talk here last year. Brilliant man also. Very enigmatic.

  2. what?
    a gay president and a terrorist taoiseach?
    what’s next?
    a democract in the white house?

  3. lol. look, the odd knee capping and some vigilantism does not a terrorist make. it’s just the way we do things around here.
    My vote for president would definatley be Christina Noble, but it would be a total waste of her time to do it.

  4. Dr Norris also known for
    –Member Irish senate
    –leading Joyce scholar
    –leading literary scholar in general
    –Ireland’s first out-of-the-closet Gay
    –man whose legal suit in Euro Supreme Court forced
    repeal of Ireland’s anti-Gay law
    olga

  5. Well he may be a bit dotty, but he’s also a total gent and all round lovely bloke.
    My Mum was born and brunged up in the house Norris now owns in North Great George’s St. She left that house and many years of memories behind in the 50s (she moved to Birmingham).
    A few years ago she was wandering down the street again on a trip back home. There was some kind of Joyce-themed street fair going on. Mam got chatting with a few people in the street and mentioned a couple of times where she’d been born.
    A little while later, Norris popped up in front of her, asking: “are you the lady who was born in my house?” He invited Mum and Da in for a cuppa and a wander through the old gaff. Top bloke.
    Lovely stuff. I’m getting one of them t-shirts, me.
