Green my apple

A fascinating piece came tumbling across our desk this morning, from the ever-curious 'englishrussia.com'. The article showcases the power of Google Earth but also the fading strength of a former power on that earth: Russia. Haunting images of abandoned and capsized military ships loom out of the waters of Murmansk.

Whilst many have expressed recent reticence about the power which Google is assuming (and their often questionable ethics) it must be admitted that Google Earth truly is a pair of 'Global Eyes'.

+Google Earth Placemarker+

If you have Google Earth installed, you can click on this link and use the specially created Blather Placemarker to fly directly to Murmansk and dig around for yourself. If you don't have it installed then for the love of all that's holy go here and get the thing. You bloody luddite.

water.gifNever mind up north, it's about to get grim down south. And wet. Like seriously wet. The Telegraph reports:

'Dr Nassos Vafeidis of the University of the Aegean, Greece, and Prof Rob Nicholls of the University of Southampton and colleagues have weighed up the impact of rising levels on the Thames Estuary, where 1.25 million people currently live, 1.5 million commute and there are assets worth up to £100 billion.'

Apparently, the coming sea rises will leave Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Canary Wharf under a wall of water. Kind of puts those rain-water drought problems into perspective doesn't it?

*Laugh? I nearly Global Warmed myself*

And of course we wonder why, eh? Why? Of course, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the other ridiculous piece of news doing the rounds these last weeks which informs us that it is now cheaper to fly places than to use the train in England. From IC Liverpool:

'Plummeting air fares have left Merseyside rail passengers paying more for a weekend break to London than for a flight to a top European holiday destination...

...new prices will take effect from next week, meaning the cost of a return ticket for use on any service will pass through the £200 mark to £205 for the first time.'

So. That whole priviatisation of state assests has really worked out to be a charm, eh? EH?

Hitler was a Jew (apparently)

jude.jpgOh those wacky Iranians. Not content with holding an international conference which had the sole purpose of presenting evidence that the Holocaust was the world's largest mass-hallunication - that's right kids, your grandparents were all suffering from the effects of a planet-wide hysterical episode - now, it seems that a spokesman for the Iranian government is stating that Adolf Hitler was actually a Jew. Oh yes. A Jew. Ynetnews.com reports:

'a top advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed in an interview with Iranian website Baztab that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's parents were both Jewish and that Hitler himself was one of the founders of the State of Israel.

In the interview, translated by MEMRI, Mohammad-Ali Ramin, a chief aide to Ahmadinejad, told Baztab that Hitler's paternal grandmother was a Jewish prostitute and his father even kept his Jewish name until finally changing it to Hitler when he was 40.'

So, there you have it folks: that whole 'Final Solution' thing was all just an elaborate gag to create Israel.
